To My Darling Daughter, born in 2020.
The year you were born, the world came to a pause. Fear entered many hearts. We adjusted to a ‘new normal’. Yet, some things didn’t change, and the flowers still bloomed.
The year you were born, many people suffered. Many people were lonely. Many people were deeply grieved. Yet, some things didn’t change, and the birds still sang.
The year you were born, the future was uncertain. We had questions. We had doubts. Yet, some things didn’t change, and the sun still shone.
The year you were born, people became disconnected. Some became less trusting. We became divided by our opinions. Yet, some things didn’t change, and the trees still stood tall and strong.
The year you were born, we lost access to some of life’s simple pleasures. We realised we had been taking so much for granted. We reminisced over the past. Yet, some things didn’t change, and the birth of a new baby still brought us the deepest joy and love and gratitude.
The year you were born, many experiences were new to us. We had a change of perspective. We learnt many things about ourselves and the way the world works. Yet, some things didn’t change, and God was still with us.
If you’d like to read more of my musings, then take a look at this post where I reflect on the power of perspective.
